SCHEDULING
Private and Duet appointments are scheduled on a ‘By Appointment’ basis. There
are a variety of instructor styles and approaches to suit the broad
spectrum of clients’ interests and preferred pace.
PRIVATE AND DUET SESSIONS
Private, and to a similar extent, Duet (two person) sessions, provide
the opportunity to truly customize the session material to the individual’s
issues and interests. These sessions make the most efficient
use of time achieving more rapid results with targeted strengthening
and stretching. A well-educated and experienced instructor
who has been taught to problem-solve vs. follow a checklist, has
a keen eye toward reshaping the way the body moves and precisely
which muscles are engaged. The goal: employ neuro-muscular
repatterning (“mind-body exercise”) to resculpt the body
and establish the most effective movement patterns possible. Sessions
are conducted according to what your interests are, what specific
issues you may want to address in your body, and how you like to
pace your sessions. This can include a combination of work
on the various pieces of Pilates and/or Gyrotonic equipment. If
you are interested in learning what you can do while on your own
at home or while traveling, instruction can be provided for home
variations of exercises done on studio equipment.
SMALL GROUP CLASSES
(3-4 people, with the specialized Pilates equipment)
These cover a variety of exercises to keep strengthened, flexible
and toned in an up-beat group environment. While these classes are
of a group nature, some attention is still paid to form and execution
- with cues from the instructor as to specific key principles to
keep in mind for each exercise. These classes have a fun group atmosphere
with progressively more challenging and varied programs suitable
to the group in general. Classes of different focus, intensity,
and pace are available to accommodate different interests. While
people of slightly differing stages of fitness may be in the same
class, there are modifications that can be done to make an exercise
more or less challenging. In order to maximize results and
to always work within a safe range, participants wishing to join
an existing group, but who have had little to no prior exposure to
pilates, may be asked to do some private or duet introductory session(s)
prior to joining a group class.
SCHEDULING:
As classes are limited in size and vacancies come available at different
times, contact studio for schedule of classes with available spaces. Additional
Small Group Classes are scheduled from the wait list once a minimum
of three people are available to meet at a mutually agreeable time. New
classes added continually: Contact the studio to find out when
people on the wait list are interested in meeting, or gather a group
of friends for fitness fun together. Creating a group class
of friends is especially beneficial when all are starting at the
same place with the work and can progress together from the fundamentals
through more challenging repertoire and beyond.
MAT CLASES
These classes provide a strong foundation in the fundamentals of
the systems in a small group setting limited to six or seven participants. Some
personalattention is still provided, with modifications of exercises
for people of various stages of fitness and experience.People with
specific areas of concern, such as acute or recurrent back problems,
should identify their issues when signing up for classes so that
an evaluation can be made as to whether they should join a group
class directly, or whether they would be better off starting with
private sessions where they would have one-on-one attention. While
it is possible to observe a class to get an idea of what a mat class
may be like, participants are asked to schedule a private evaluation
and introduction to the pilates fundamentals prior to participating
in a mat class.
